In 17th May 2017, Dr. Ahmed Farag from Hingeneering Consulting presented an industrial seminar to the graduate students at the structural engineering department at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta.
The topic of the presentation was about Housing and small buildings, which constitute a considerable amount of the structures in most cities and urban counties. Yet, these structures are required to fulfill the regulations of the Alberta Building Code. Practicing professional engineers should be aware of these types of buildings and their requirements as illustrated in Part 9 of the current Alberta Building Code (ABC 2014).
The presentation discussed discuss the various structural aspects of the housing and small buildings as highlighted in Alberta Building Code. It also included the applicability, material used, structural requirements in addition to the sample structural drawings for single family homes.
