"I still remember my first day as a student in the Self-employment program at Microbusiness Training Centre. That was three years ago, but it was a turning point in my career and mindset. Before then, I had no idea about running a business adding to that the challenge of being an immigrant who came to Canada in 2008. I possessed the right technical skills as I was registered as professional engineer in Alberta and got my PhD at the University of Alberta. However, I still had no clue about this country’s economy, how to do business or find customers. It was really a new experience for me to learn about all the non-technical aspects of running a business.Today, I am running a full-service engineering consulting firm on a solid foundation. Our sales are steadily growing and we moved into our first commercial office last year. This would not have been possible without the training and ongoing coaching support that I got from the Microbusiness Training Center. The business tips, instructors, guest speakers, and course materials were outstanding and remain a valuable resource in my daily business. The Self-employment program at Microbusiness Training Centre is funded by the Government of Alberta."
